Michaelmas Bulletin 7

Hi everyone

We're just back from our last trip of term to the Yorkshire Dales - photos here if you weren't able to make it. If you're keen for more hillwalking in the near future, look no further...

Coniston vacation trip, 3rd - 7th January 2019

Our next trip is our New Year vacation trip to Coniston in the southern Lake District. The bunkhouse is placed perfectly at the foot of the Coniston range (including the Old Man, Wetherlam and Swirl How). We went to the same bunkhouse last year and had some amazing weather - hopefully we'll be just as lucky this year! The hills aren't the only thing of interest in the area - Time Team have visited the valley to look into the old copper mines and an annual End-to-End swim (5.25 miles!!) takes place in Coniston Water every year.

Vacation trips run a little differently to term-time trips - the club doesn't organise transport from Cambridge (instead, we have a wiki for coordinating lifts) and they are pay-per-night so you can come for as many or few nights as you want. This trip fee is £11 per night to cover accommodation and club supplies (milk, cooking oil, biscuits etc.). Sign up is via this webform and we'll email you closer to the time to ask for payment. If you change your plans and want to alter your dates (or drop out), email cuhwcpresident@gmail.com.

Trips next term

We have three weekend trips in the pipeline for next term - if you're keen to know details, here they are:
25th-27th Jan: Teesdale in the North Pennines
15th-17th Feb: 30th Anniversary Weekend (see below!), Langdale, Lake District
1st-3rd March: Dolgellau in southern Snowdonia
There will also be a day trip, with details tbc closer to the time.

Thirtieth Anniversary Weekend

As you'll probably have heard by now, this academic year is the thirtieth anniversary for the club! One of the normal weekend trips next term is being replaced by a big weekend trip to Langdale for current and ex-members to get together and celebrate everything CUHWC. If you've only joined the club this term you are definitely welcome to come along - the Thirtieth Anniversary Committee have reserved a number of spaces for people new to CUHWC and will allocate these places just after the end of term (ie early December). If you're keen to come, you'll need to fill in the form here. The ticket price is equivalent to going on an ordinary weekend trip with the cost of a fancy three-course dinner attached!

Christmas Curry, Rajbelash, 36 - 38, Hills Rd, 7.30pm Thursday 29th Nov

Our annual Christmas Curry is this Thursday at Rajbelash on Hills Road - if you're interested, email our Social Secretaries, Mary and Simon (cuhwc-social@srcf.net).

Vacation pub meets

We have our final pub meet of term tomorrow (8.30pm, Castle Inn), but if you're around in Cambridge after that fear not - you can still get your weekly CUHWC pub fix! Outside of term-time pub meets are normally organised via our informal mailing list, the Discuss List, and tend to take in a variety of pubs around Cambridge. You can subscribe to the list (and unsubscribe) here.

Hope to see you all at a social or on the hills soon!
