Kit Lists

Personal on the hill:

  • Walking boots (waterproof) - boots preferred rather than shoes/trainers
  • Warm socks
  • Waterproof coat
  • Waterproof trousers
  • Suitable walking clothes – synthetic is best; no jeans
  • Spare fleece, warm hat and gloves (in sturdy bin liner)
  • Water bottle (at least 1.5 litre)
  • Headtorch with spare batteries
  • Rucksack
  • Sufficient food for lunch and snacks
  • Emergency food

The following items may be useful if you have them.

  • Map (and map case)
  • Compass
  • Waterproof rucksack liner
  • Gaiters
  • Sunglasses, Cap/Brimmed hat (Summer)
  • Suncream (Mar - Sep)
  • First Aid Kit
  • Whistle
  • Survival Bag
  • Thermos flask for hot drink
  • Walking poles

Nick New (Club President 2022-2023) in full winter gear (goggles, crampons, ice axe, waterproofs) in the Cairngorms

In addition in winter take:

  • Sunglasses
  • Extra warm layers (thermals)
  • Spare gloves
  • Goggles
  • Gaiters
  • Ice Axe, Crampons, Helmet (Optional. If you don’t know how to use these, plan your walks to avoid using them)

Each group should also carry between them (Group items are provided by the club):

  • Group shelter (large enough for everyone)
  • Group first aid kit
  • 1 map (at least)
  • 1 compass (at least)

For the bunkhouse:

  • Sleeping bag
  • Food for breakfasts / lunches
  • Toiletries (e.g. a Towel, Most - if not all - bunkhouses will have showers)
  • Dry clothes
  • Earplugs, slippers/sandals (nice to have)
