Cooking for Rydal Trip, 5-7 June 2015

This is a wiki (editable web page) to organise cooking for this weekend’s trip to Rydal.

The kitchen is quite small. There is a freezer, refrigerator, cooker and microwave. Please make groups as large as possible to minimise the number of cooks spoiling the broth in the kitchen. (Pretty sure there is a pretty reasonable sized oven too - J.O)

Click edit at the top to change the text (you’ll need to be logged in to your account on the website first – click here to register if you don’t have one). You can either suggest a meal idea or join one of the existing ones and you’re obviously also welcome to sort yourself out (move your name to Independent). Please remove your name from the Not yet signed-up for meal list too once you’re in a group or have decided to cook alone. The person who suggests the meal is responsible for arranging the ingredients – everyone else in the group should bring money on the trip to pay for their share, and expect to help with the preparation and washing up.


Meal suggestions by Tuesday evening. Finalise groups by Wednesday evening so the person suggesting the meal knows how much they have to buy and has a couple of days to do the shopping.

Meal 1: Beetroot pasta and chocolate cherries

  • Main: Beetroot pesto pasta with butterbeans
  • Dessert: Chocolate cherry cake

  • Maximum number: 12

Meal 2: Balanced veg (considerate on nuts, non-spicy)

  • Starter: Papad with green salad
  • Main: Khichdi (rice:lentil:veg 1:1:2 w/w)
  • Dessert: kesari bath (contains rava, saffron (limited stock from Kashmir), ghee (clarified butter) and dry fruits)

  • Maximum number: 15

  • Cost per person: ~5£

  • Starter: Bread roll with green salad
  • Main: Chicken, chorizo and cashew nut risotto
  • Dessert: Warm chocolate brownie with cream

  • Maximum number 10 (Phil - email me if that isn't enough!)

  • Cost to be confirmed expected maximum £3
