My stay at [REDACTED]
By Jamie Bellenger for Mystery Trip, Jun 2024
After solving the mystery, we drove to [REDACTED]. In short, the bunkhouse is well located in [REDACTED], has amazing views of [REDACTED], lots of local walks, and is overall a good size for 20 people.
Parking is 5-10mins away from the front door, so make sure you can carry everything you want on the trip. You lose phone signal ~3-5 miles before the bunkhouse, so set navigation to [REDACTED] early.
Views outside are inspiring, the owners providing route ideas around [REDACTED] makes the morning a breeze.
Sleeping arangements are rows of mattresses, nothing noteworthy good or bad.
The kitchen has 8 gas hobs, 1 small oven, 2 kettles, 1 large fridge, big sink and seating. There is no microwave or freezer, so don't bring ice cream.
There is adequate eating space, but people should take corner benches first.
The living room has a usable fireplace and coal, comfy seating, many books and a few board games; very cozy room.
Drying room looks fine, didn't use it but it looked fine.
In cleaning equipment, you are also provided a vacuum cleaner which makes everything a lot easier.
Water pressure is LOW. 2 showers serve as changing rooms because of how un-usable they are. We had to fill toilet cisterns with buckets on Saturday. This is a big problem.
Toilets being away from sinks & "showers" is nice.
Overall I'd recommend CUHWC visit this bunkhouse in [REDACTED] every year, if it weren't for the water pressure. It's got an AMAZING location, a good kitchen, is easy to clean/maintain, and is cozy. But not being able to shower, and having to fill toilets via buckets makes it a "every 2 or 3 years I'd like to go" from me.
